Operation

Open Cinematic will operate as a democratic organisation, utilising a representative decision-making process. We recognise that the personal dynamics within any organisation more greatly impact upon its operation than structural cohesion. Open Cinematic will fundamentally function as a close group of filmmakers with a broadly shared vision and great mutual respect.

Shared authorship will be apparent throughout the Open Cinematic portfolio. Most films will be helmed by co-directors and all will be created through collaboration with their subjects. Minimal production crews will be favoured, with filmmakers multi-tasking various technical roles. Most projects will be produced within the micro-budget funding bracket.

Open Cinematic will strive to engage as wide an audience as possible. We will pursue maximum exposure through both traditional and innovative methods of distribution and exhibition. Reaching beyond insular established audiences, new spectatorships will be tapped through the digital sphere and guerrilla public screenings.

As a nonprofit organisation, all profit gained through distribution and exhibition will immediately be made available for the production of new work. Every member of the Open Cinematic co-op will be entitled to these funds, regardless of their participation (or non-participation) in the financially contributing film(s). Every member will also be entitled to recoup any financial sum personally invested in production, in addition to receiving payment where a project breaks even.
